A packed house attended this year’s Tom Poole Day on Saturday 19th of July. The afternoon started with an excellent talk by Prof. Lynda Pratt and Dr. Ian Packer offering an informative account of the long but often-overlooked friendship between Tom Poole and Robert Southey. This was followed by tea in the garden at Thomas Poole House and a performance of Diana Barsham’s play: “Bedfellows: “The Mid-Life Crisis of Samuel Taylor Coleridge” set in 1814. The play focused on Coleridge’s troubled relationships with Southey and Wordsworth. It included a new interpretation of his intimate friendship with Dorothy Wordsworth. John Hartoch gave an unforgettable performance of Coleridge at his lowest ebb!
