This marble plaque on the outside of the Casino Maltese inValletta commemorates Coleridge’s time as Private Secretary to the then Governor of Malta, Admiral Alexander Ball.

The idea of a plaque was the inspiration of two retired Maltese EU judges. The photograph shows Giovanni Bonello and the stone mason, Mr John Montebello, standing alongside the plaque. Giovanni Bonello was the driving force behind the project, and is the author and editor of a series of histories of Malta.

The Casino Maltese is an important building in a prominent square in Valetta. During the early days of British rule the premises housed the Chief Secretary's Office and the Government Treasury. Later the block was converted into a hotel, and during the first decade of the century was taken over by the Casino Maltese.

The Friends of Coleridge have promised to make a contribution towards the cost of the plaque.
