Coleridge Summer Conference

The Biennial Coleridge Conference, 2018, Cambridge 6th to 9th August

In August 2018 the Coleridge Conference will be held, for the first time, at Jesus College, Cambridge — Coleridge’s college as an undergraduate.

We shall converse in the leafy courts he inhabited, visit the library he used and the chapel he attended, and explore some of the pubs he frequented.

As usual, the conference will be both intense and relaxed, as the mostly plenary sessions overspill into garden parties, poetry readings and hikes, with the added possibility of punting on the river Cam.

Keynote speakers will be Charles Mahoney, author of the forthcoming Princeton edition of Coleridge on Shakespeare, Alan Vardy, author of John Clare: Politics and Poetry, and J. H. Prynne, Cambridge-based poet and author of Field Notes: the Solitary Reaper and Others.

The college’s splendid accommodation is viewable here:

The cost, for full residence, meals and fee will be approx. £600. Bursaries for part of this cost will be available to graduate students and to unwaged scholars on a competitive basis.

The conference is supported in 2018 by the Friends of Coleridge and the Charles Lamb Society.
